Do I need a Key Code? – Nope!
If you lost your car or motorcycle keys, do you need a “Key Code” for a locksmith to make a new key?
No, although it might save you some money if you have one, it is not required for an automotive locksmith to generate a new set of replacement keys for your vehicle.
What is a key code? Many automotive manufactures have a cryptic key code they generate with each key used on a vehicle. This code (with the help of locksmith software) can be converted to key cuts. for example, a 1992 Chevy Pickup might have the Key code 11M9 translates to the cuts 335434.
Here is what the key would look like after being cut.
This takes the labor and any guess work out of making a key, but we have tools, equipment and resources that allow us to generate a replacement key even if you don’t have the original key code.
Can you get the key code for the dealer?
Maybe. If you can provide ID and proof of ownership, your local dealership might look up your vehicles key code for a fee. These fees vary from dealer to dealer and not all dealers will have the ability to generate a key code for you. For example, many Chevy dealers won’t give out key codes (they want you to tow the vehicle to their shop), and Ford only keeps key codes for 10 years, so if you have an 11 year old F150 your only option would be to have a key made from the vehicles existing locks.
We take care of all of this for you. We come to you and do the work at your vehicle. We will decode the locks or pull the key code and generate a key for you on the spot. We do this by appointment and typically takes about an hour or less.
For a Quote, call (530) 514-0252 as prices vary depending on year/make/model and location and condition of the vehicle.
Thank you.
