Toyota Key Code
Yesterday I went out and made a proximity key to a Toyota Prius from the key code.
The key code of Toyota’s are traditionally located on the passenger side door lock. Many new vehicles don’t have a door lock on the passenger side so in this case, the code will be on the drivers side door lock, but you have to get the lock out and into your had to see it.
I have a program that can translate the 5 digit key code to the cuts on the key
After I get the cuts, I’ll cut a test key, and if the key works, I’ll duplicate the cuts onto the more expensive new key, in this case, the emergency key that lives inside the Prox key
While the key is being physically cut, I will already be flashing the cars Electronic Control Unit “ECU” and starting the programming process. When all keys are lost we must prepare the cars computer to accept the new keys, while wiping out the old keys from the cars memory. The Smart Key reset takes about 16 minutes and I have a programmer that connects to the cars ECU through the OBD2 Port under the steering-wheel.
In this case, The Smart Key failed to program after the 16 minute wait. The first thing to do when this happens is to check the cars voltage. After the re-flash and prep, the voltage dropped to about 10 volts. The customer said the car had been sitting for about 2 months. I keep a charged a batter jumper pack for just this type of situation, but charging a Prius battery is a little different so I included a photo. There is a access point in the fuse box under the hood. I connected the positive to the access point and grounded the negative to the vehicle itself. The alternative is to gain access to the batter that is located in the trunk (check the owners manual if you need to locate the 12v battery on the car)
about 20 minutes after arriving the the customer had a new working OEM (Orignal Equipment from the Manufacturer) Prox key and the lost keys will no longer operate the vehicle, but if found can be added back in later.
So, If you loose your keys, and all keys are lost, give us a call, we can come out to the car and get you going for most vehicles.
